NRP has published resource materials for teachers based on the following level 1 readers:
- • Going home with chickens
- • The Nkosi Family
- • Mandla and the bull
- • The new baby
- • Woza Friday
The following resource materials - based on level 3 readers - are in development and will be published soon: Beer, Songs and Quarrels, Against the wind – Five South Africans follow their dreams, No space to plant.
The teachers’ resource materials are divided into 2 sections.
The first section is called “Reading activities”. It comprises:
- • General ideas for teaching reading
- • Pre-reading
- • Different ways of reading books in the classroom
- • After-reading
- • Suggestions for use with that particular book
The second section contains photocopiable language worksheets preceded by instructions on how to use the worksheets. The worksheets have 4 separate sections on comprehension, functional language, writing and grammar and vocabulary. They cover all the outcomes for Language and Communication in English and the outcomes covered by each section are listed. The layout of the worksheets is very similar to the layout of the IEB exams, which is intended to help learners to become familiar with exam style assessment.
